Alcoholism Recovery

Recovering from an Addiction to Alcohol

Alcohol can start as a way to cope, unwind, or feel connected. Over time, it can quietly take more than it gives.

If alcohol has begun to impact your health, relationships, work, or sense of self, you are not weak and you are not alone. Recovery is possible, and you do not need to hit rock bottom to begin.

At The Overcomers Place, we support people recovering from alcoholism through a structured, compassionate, and evidence-based day program designed to help you rebuild safety, stability, and meaning in your life.

When drinking stops feeling like a choice

Many people feel stuck in cycles of:

  • Drinking to cope with stress, anxiety, or emotional pain

  • Promising they will cut back, then feeling unable to

  • Shame, isolation, or frustration after drinking

  • Strong cravings or emotional overwhelm when trying to stop

Alcohol dependence is not a failure of willpower. It is closely linked to how the nervous system learns to seek relief from discomfort. Over time, the brain adapts, making it harder to regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and resist urges without support.

This is why recovery often needs more than just trying harder.

A different approach to alcohol recovery

Long-term recovery is supported when people feel safe, supported, and connected, while learning practical tools to regulate their nervous system and rebuild their lives.

At The Overcomers Place, recovery from alcoholism focuses on:

  • Breaking the cycle of compulsive drinking

  • Learning skills to manage cravings and emotional overwhelm

  • Restoring nervous system regulation and emotional balance

  • Developing healthy relationships and community connection

  • Creating sustainable routines that support long-term abstinence

Our program is neuroscience-informed, trauma-aware, and led by a lived-experience counselling team who understand recovery from the inside out.

The Overcomers Place offers a structured, non-residential day program (Monday to Friday) for those seeking recovery from an addiction of any kind. Our addiction support groups are free of charge* for the duration of your program, and will provide you with the practical support you need to regain control of your physical, mental and emotional health. Therapy sessions run from Monday to Friday, and are here to provide you with the practical, evidence-based support you need to regain control of your physical, mental and emotional health.
