Drug Addiction Recovery
Recovering from Drug Addiction
Drug use can begin as a way to cope, escape, manage pain, or feel in control. Over time, it can shift from something you choose into something that feels hard to stop, even when it’s causing harm.
If drug use has begun to impact your health, relationships, work, or sense of self, you are not broken and you are not alone. Recovery is possible, and support can make a real difference.
At The Overcomers Place, we support people recovering from drug addiction through a structured, compassionate, and evidence-based day program designed to help restore safety, stability, and direction in life.
When using stops feeling like a choice
Many people struggling with drug addiction describe feeling stuck in patterns of:
Using drugs to cope with stress, trauma, emotional pain, or overwhelm
Wanting to stop or cut back, but feeling unable to
Shame, secrecy, or isolation around use
Intense cravings or distress when trying to stop
Drug addiction is not a moral failing or a lack of willpower. Repeated drug use changes how the brain and nervous system respond to stress, pleasure, and discomfort. Over time, these changes can make it harder to regulate emotions, tolerate distress, and resist urges without support.
This is why recovery often requires more than determination alone.
A different approach to drug addiction recovery
Sustainable recovery is supported when people feel safe, connected, and understood, while learning practical tools to regulate their nervous system and respond differently to cravings and triggers.
At The Overcomers Place, recovery from drug addiction focuses on:
Interrupting compulsive patterns of use
Learning skills to manage cravings and emotional distress
Supporting nervous system regulation and stability
Rebuilding trust, relationships, and connection
Creating daily routines that support long-term abstinence
Our program is neuroscience-informed, trauma-aware, and led by a lived-experience counselling team who understand recovery from the inside out.
The Overcomers Place offers a structured, non-residential day program (Monday to Friday) for those seeking recovery from an addiction of any kind. Our addiction support groups are free of charge* for the duration of your program, and will provide you with the practical support you need to regain control of your physical, mental and emotional health. Therapy sessions run from Monday to Friday, and are here to provide you with the practical, evidence-based support you need to regain control of your physical, mental and emotional health.
